Build a Family Website: Make a Site for Your Family in Four Weeks
If building a family tree website feels overwhelming, this class from Family Tree University is for you.
In four short weeks, you’ll build not one but two websites – then pick the one you like best. And, you won’t believe how easy it is.
In fact, here’s a screenshot of a website created by a student in the class – click the screenshot to go over and look at her site. And yes, this was built during the class.
Why would you want to build a family tree website?
- share family photos
- network with people researching your surnames
- involve other family members in tracing genealogy
- showing off the documents you’ve discovered
- displaying maps, birth certificates and other research treasures
- honoring your family in a wonderful fashion
And, if you’re worried about your site being public, don’t. Both sites that you create have “privacy settings” so you can limit what the outside world can see.
If you’re asking “why two sites, why not just one?” Here’s the answer:
Sites are built on two different “platforms” (which you’ll learn about in class); some people find one easier than the other and vice-versa; this way you get to try both before making a final decision.
There’s so much genealogy information online, this is a great time to start showing off all that you’ve found. (I personally like to use a site to “stash” bits and pieces of research that I’ll come back to later for more research).
You can sign up at any time – classes begin monthly. I’m really looking forward to seeing you in class!
