What I know about Martha Jane Hendrickson Keller
Honestly, I’m still trying to figure out how Martha Jane met her husband, Mike Keller. What I know of him is that he belonged to the 27th Indiana Infantry in the Civil War. A book about that regiment, Giants in the Cornfield, tells all about their Civil War experience and mentions Mike’s joining up. However, I can find very little about Martha Jane.
I know that her father, John, went to Kansas for some period of time with “his son-in-law, Mike Keller”. But based on their wedding date, was Mike still in the Army or was he discharged? (Note to self: Do some research on this!).
I know that Martha and Mike had at least seven children, the first born “about 1867” although this seems too long from the time of their marriage (1864). (Note to self: More research, Nancy!)
What I most want to know about Martha Jane, my aunt, is how and where she met Mike Keller. More to be discovered.
They are both buried in the Lee’s Summit, Missouri, historical cemetery, not far from where the guerrilla Cole Younger is buried.
