Join Irish Genealogy Expert Sharon Carmack
From March 13 through April 7, Irish genealogy expert Sharon Carmack will be teaching Irish Research 101 at Family Tree University. (Read to the bottom of the page to get your code for saving $10)
Along with things like Irish parish records, immigration routes, and Irish surnames, Sharon’s course covers the strategies:
- What US records can help you find your Irish roots
- Irish immigrants’ routes to and within the United States
- Strategies for tracking down Irish ancestors with common names
- What Irish-American resources are available to researchers
- Irish church records
If you’re unfamiliar with Sharon’s background, she’s a certified genealogist with an MFA in Creative Nonfiction writing and a diploma in Irish studies from the University of Ireland. She specializes in Irish and Italian genealogical research. If you’re just getting started in your Emerald Isle research, I can’t think of a better person to guide your search.
One of her students said “I have been researching for about 20 years but it is only in the last five that I have done it in depth. So may times I have hit brick walls. But with what I learned in this class I can go back as the treasure chest has been opened. I found the class invaluable and rate it a five out of five.”

Nancy’s Irish Mystery
On a personal note, the closest person I’ve found that *may* be my Irish connection is Robert McClelland. My DNA shows 14% Irish heritage, and Robert is the closest I’ve come to finding ancestors from the Emerald Isle. It’s frustrating for someone like me who specializes in American genealogy as I’m totally lost when it comes to swimming to the other shore! Fortunately, Sharon’s a great navigator!
And, if you like the idea of an Irish-y genealogy story, I think you’re going to love my latest Genealogy Challenge: The John Gallagher Mystery.
