Moravian Cemetery, Bethania, N.C.
In my latest genealogy book, Discover Your Family History Online, I devote a lot of space to basic and advanced Google searching. That’s because I’ve had a high level of success in tracking down ancestors – thanks to the generosity of online genealogists.
Today, I just want to give a shout-out to Faye Jarvis Moran and Elizabeth H. Harris for posting information about the Moravian Shore (Schor) family who came to America from Switzerland in 1751. This website provided me with much-needed information about a family whose descendant I met many, many years ago.
In 2005, I traveled to North Carolina, visiting the old Moravian towns of Bethania and Bethabara. I found the burial plots of my 5th great-grandparents in the Bethania Cemetery. Men are buried on one side of the cemetery, women on the other. Reading the stones was a challenge as there’s been a lot of wear since 1810 and 1819.
I’m in the process of uploading new family information and photos – - hopefully my work will help another researcher, just as the Shore researchers helped me.
